I haven't heard of HPV being associated with that particular cancer but your slides can be tested. There are several testing spots in the U.S. and Johns Hopkins is one. It is also not clear how one acquires the HPV virus but by age 50 80% of us show that we have come in contact with it and fortunately most of our immune systems effectively deals with it and it never becomes a problem. Out of the 100 known strains of the HPV virus only 4 have been associated with cancer and out of those 4 only 2 are associated with cancer in the Oral Cavity. Even though tobacco and HPV accounts for the majority of cancers in the OC there is a small percentage of cancers that are presented without a identified cause. There is a great deal about HPV that can be accessed on this site as well as a great deal of information on Oral Cancers.
