Hello All,
It's been close to an year since I became a member of this forum and have had the previlege to get expert advise from other members.

My mother was diagonsed Stage 1 (T1N0M0) oral cancer in April 2007 and underwent Radiation Therapy (x 33) which was completed in June 2007. She has been suffering from moderate to severe after-effects of radiation therapy with no appetite, no taste and absolutely no saliva.

Few days back, she observed a little swelling on her right salivary gland while she ate her meal. This swelling subsides and goes off "almost completely" in a little while but returns whenever she eats again. We've already checked with an ENT specialist as well as a surgeon. They have diagnosed it to be a blocked salivary gland (can be attributed as an after-effect of RT) which fills up with extra saliva production during eating. This brings the expansion of the gland and as the saliva is released, it contracts to come back to its original size.

They have not prescribed any medicine but have asked her to take more of citrus fruits, sour drinks etc.

My question is:- Have this been heard of before? I did try to search this forum for the similar occurances but did not find any... if anyone of you have experienced or have heard of something similar, please share across with me.

Thank you!
