Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 13 | Firstly, I haven't been here for ages! I can't even remember the last time I came. I think I had only just started treatment. Wow. Time flies!
Ok...I had 10 cycles of chemo and 35 radiotherapy treatments and had my last treatment on the 11th of April.
I thought I dealt pretty well with the tiredness, I managed to get through every day without having a nap (well, once I fell asleep!)
Now I am 9 weeks post treatment and I am so tired all of the time.
It's been like this for a couple of weeks now...probably 3.
I can't really concentrate on anything because I just want to sleep. I do do things during the day, for example, I'll go in to town and I'll get back and will be falling asleep for the rest of the day!
On Friday night I went to the Big Brother eviction and I was too tired to get out of bed for the rest of the weekend.
Do you think this is just the tiredness from radiotherapy catching up with me?
I feel like people think I'm lazy when I tell them I don't want to do something because I'm so tired!

Its nice to hear from you. Im glad you are doing well except for the fatigue. That can continue for a while after finishing treatments. Your body needs to heal and rest, fluids and good nutrition will speed that process.
Has your doctor done blood work recently? If so, has your white and red counts improved? Is your blood pressure normal?
Im 8 months past treatments and still struggle with fatigue. For me its due to anemia and my white counts are still low.
I have followed your blog and it is amazing how you went thru this with such a great attitude and just took the whole thing in stride. Best of luck to you.

I haven't had a blood test since the beginning of April and I haven't had my BP done for...well I can't even remember the last time! Maybe I'll mention it to my consultant the next time I go and ask if I can have a blood test just in case my counts are low.

Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 | You might also check the TSH levels as a lot of us suffer permanent thyroid damage which can show similar side effects and is easily corrected. It is a little to soon for that to show up so if it is just the post Tx recovery tiredness be on the lookout for the thyroid problems down the road.

I know I didn't sleep well and actually had insomnia through all of my treatment but later I had really a few months when I was just flat out exhausted all the time. I also had problems with anemia for quite a while. As David mentioned, it could also be your thyroid--you should probably get a blood test for that just to be sure it hasn't already quit on you.

Get the blood work done and definitely get a full thyroid panel including the TSH. Since the area you were having radiated would prorbaly have included the thryoid, this might be the cause. While people are often still fatigued 9 weeks out, that is not usually true for people who were NOT fatigued during treatment unless it is something like anemeia or thyroid problems,
