Bill was off all pain meds by the end of the second week of treatment. He probably weaned off too fast! When the fentenyl patch (lowest dosage) expired after his last treatment, he didn't put another one on and he felt like he didn't need the liquid morphine anymore 'cause he didn't have pain...but he could not sleep for about four or five days..day or night. After that, he finally calmed down and started his regular sleep pattern.

Oddly enough, after Bill's hospitalization the final week of his treatment, he started getting better. He didn't have the post treatment problems that most do. I wonder if the antibiotics and fluids administered during his stay helped him conquer some the issues (infected mouth sores, for instance.) Anyway, he was back on food by mouth going into the third week after treatment and acted and looked almost normal that third week.

I took myself off all meds soon after Tx ended because I/they couldn't control the nausea and I figured the throat pain was the better alternative. It worked for me and the pain stayed around only until about week 3 post TX and was really never intense, more like a really bad sore throat. I know I was one of the lucky ones.
