Michelle, CG to husband (45), DX 2/08 Stage IVa Adenocarcinoma Salivary Gland (T2N2bMO) Parotidectomy & ND 2/08, Tumor margins not clear, 4 of 30 nodes positve for cancer, TX IMRT 39x, cisplatin 7x (completed 5/1/08), PEG (4/22 - 7/9), No port. Currently in remission!

He probably weaned off too fast! When the fentenyl patch (lowest dosage) expired after his last treatment, he didn't put another one on and he felt like he didn't need the liquid morphine anymore 'cause he didn't have pain...but he could not sleep for about four or five days..day or night. After that, he finally calmed down and started his regular sleep pattern.
Oddly enough, after Bill's hospitalization the final week of his treatment, he started getting better. He didn't have the post treatment problems that most do. I wonder if the antibiotics and fluids administered during his stay helped him conquer some the issues (infected mouth sores, for instance.) Anyway, he was back on food by mouth going into the third week after treatment and acted and looked almost normal that third week.

It worked for me and the pain stayed around only until about week 3 post TX and was really never intense, more like a really bad sore throat. I know I was one of the lucky ones.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.
