Am on my 19th rad tx, 200 to the rt side of my neck and 160 to the left every visit. Side effects are thick mucous at night , have begun using expectorants and caphosol with baking soda /salt gargles with glutamine.No taste buds ,can still smell, doing the protein shake. Had one 200 ml of cisplatin 3 wks ago and it has affected my hearing and gastro-intestinal tract. Asked the chemo Dr for carbo. Now they want to give me 4 shots of neupogen after every infusion. This stuff is nasty, made from E-Coli,Any experiences on using this WBC increaser.

If I recall I got Neupogen to combat the myelo-suppressive effect of carboplatin. However, I only got one injection per week (3 times total).
There is no need to freak out about the origin of it. E. coli is harmless, in fact you are full of it!. This just means that they express the protein in E. coli from which is then purified.
I am unsure why you say that it is nasty? They say that it may cause bone pain... but I personally never had any problems. Neulasta is just a modified version of it to make it stay around longer.

Thanks for your reply , was scared at all of the side effects from the mayoclinic.com. Have to do 4 shots after each carbo session. Daily of course. Regards.
