I have read several older posts and received some advice currently that a portable suction machine would be of benefit to Dan to help with this choking mucous. We talked to our RO today and he said he had never prescribed one before, but would be happy to do so if we could tell him what it was called... So what did your doc's write on the scrip?
THANKS!!

Thanks Mike - that is exactly what I need. I'm going to e-mail his nurse again right now.

Ok we got one and the lady came out and delivered it on Friday and gave us the mouth suction attachment and the thin long deep throat suction attachment. Dan's tried it twice and it makes him gag terribly.

Any suggestions?

Try putting the canula (long part) in the side of his mouth and have him close his lips around it. That's how I did it in the hospital and it did a good job. I didn't try to stick it down my throat, instead got as much of it into my mouth as possible and then did as I describe above.
Is he using Guaffenasin also? Not sure if I spelled that right, but it's over the counter and really helped me in thinning out the secrections. I didn't have to use a suction machine during my raidation, only during my second surgery.

Good Luck,
Minnie

Hey Minnie thanks for the tip - we'll try it that way. Yes - he has been on Guafinasion - about 1500 mg per day for quite a while.
