I have always been thin and had to put on weight before starting treatment. Yet I had a history of high cholesterol despite a previous diet of egg whites, no butter, no red meat, and little cheese. They said don't worry about it--eat what you want, but my cholesterol must be sky high after my high-fat diet. I won't be tested again until June. That will be interesting.

Left tonsil SCC, HPV+. T2N0M0. Tonsillectomy 3-07, bilateral radiation, cisplatin 3x, Tx completed 6-06. Clear PET 4-01-2008.
Thyroidectomy 5-9-08, resulting in permanent surgically-induced hypoparathyroidism and adrenal problems. Bummer.

It's EXTREMELY frustrating for some of us caregivers, who struggle to put the weight back on our loved ones, while trying to maintain our own weight.
Since Buzz has been sick, I add EXTRA butter, heavy cream, sauces & gravies, lots of baked breads, rich desserts, etc....I have gained about 20 pounds, and he is still struggling to maintain 160!
..Go figure!

I think some people just naturally have high cholesterol . One Dr said it is in the genes.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Yes there are 2 ways for cholestrol to show up. One from the food we eat and one from our bodies' production so you can totally avoid dietary cholestrol and still have a high cholestrol count. There are many other factors to consider when the decision is made re lowering your cholestrol and even there doctors will disagree on the approach or even if one is needed as I soon found out after initially being told I had high cholestrol.

I had a spot on each of my lungs as well. My RO said they were probably just from radiation effects. I had a PET scan done and it confirmed that the spots were just scar tissue brought on from the radiation. I recently had a follow-up CT scan and the spots are now almost completely gone. Hopefully the spots that you have are just from radiation effects too.

Nine years out. New normal with limitations, but surviving and living life to the fullest.
