As I was a competitive swimmmer and water polo player for a total of about 20 years growing up in California before SPF or sunscreen, I have had more than my share of actinic keratoses and small basal cell skin cancers removed from various parts of me. (I joke with my primary doc that he is murdering me a little chunk at a time). This looks like a keratosis, and is really annoying.
All of the docs at the CCC are unconcerned and say that I can have it removed by my family doc. I have an appointment with plastic surgeon he referred me to, but just wanted to know if anyone else experienced anything similar after radiation?
Thanks! Jeff SCC Right BOT Dx 3/28/2007 T2N2a M0G1,Stage IVa Bilateral Neck Dissection 4/11/2007 39 x IMRT, 8 x Cisplatin Ended 7/11/07 Complete response to treatment so far!!

The growth is a keratoacanthoma (try saying that five times fast). I guess there has been some debate over the years as to whether or not these are malignant, but modern thinking seems to be that they are a low grade malignancy similar to a SCC. He has seen hundreds of them, and will remove it in two weeks. He sees no long term issues.
As Roseanne Rosanna Danna used to say on SNL "You know, its always something . . . " ;-) Jeff SCC Right BOT Dx 3/28/2007 T2N2a M0G1,Stage IVa Bilateral Neck Dissection 4/11/2007 39 x IMRT, 8 x Cisplatin Ended 7/11/07 Complete response to treatment so far!!
