Dip it in the au jus(?) and have at it. Never did like spelling. When you dip it, it will soften the bread plus carry juice so you can swallow it. That was my first thing I had when I felt ready. Good luck. Bill

What you are describing is the 'new normal'. We all discover it. Things are not like they were, and they never will be. However, things will get better, more tolerable, more acceptable. You will heal, you may get some saliva function back, you will probably have to carry a bottle of water with you wherever you go.
It's ok. It's great to be alive. Remember, not too long ago, this cancer was a death sentence.

Keep your water handy and remember to try small bites first. Jack said that his jaw muscles got tired very easily in the beginning so don't worry if that happens. It's like any other muscle you need to build back up. You may only be able to eat a little bit at first. The dip - and sauce in general - does help. The biotene mouth gel right before eating might help. There's also a tea called throat coat that isn't bad, and prescription medications to stimulate saliva. But mostly it just takes time to see what comes back. Be patient, it's pretty early in your recovery. Good luck. Regards JoAnne
