He is in his 8th week now. The mucous has gone for the most part but the pain is still there. He continues to take his morphine but would like to stop it all together. He still has his feed tube, but is taking Ensure orally. Any suggestions.

I am 12 weeks post tx for cancer to the tongue, and I am still in a lot of pain, and still on the peg tube. It is too painful to swallow for me still. I seem to have an infection which is being treated, so hopefully when that clears up so will some of the pain. I had been doing well, gradually noticing improvement each week, but now it seems like a setback. I think it is just a really long, long process for healing, and for some of us it just takes longer. I would check out the possibility of a bacterial or yeast infection, which are painful as well.

The doctor today told us that my husband has 2 ulcers in his mouth. It just needs time to heal. My husband told the doctor he was in terrible pain and the doctor seemed very surprised that the ulcers would cause such pain. He advised my husband to decrease the amount of morphine and only take 2 ml 1 hour before eating. My husband still has his feed tube and the doctor was going to remove it but my husband told him it was the only way to put medicine into his body. I hope you are feeling better as time goes on. Thanks again. Carol Ann.
