Can anyone tell me the maximum amount that my husband can have of this drink daily?

He finished his radiation this past Wed., and is having a lot of trouble with mucous and bleeding in the throat. So, he is mainly drinking this now. Everything else really hurts!

I don't want him to have too many so want to know what is too many. His Dr. was going to have him drink 6 of the 250 calorie drinks per day but, he likes the calorie content of this one better.

We are so glad that the treatments are all finished!! Now, just getting through this part, which since last week is the worst it's been.

I was told that I needed up around 3000 cal, while my body was trying to heal. That's 5 to 6 cans a day. You are talking about the canned CIB with 560 cal I hope. I was drinking a mixture of 1 CIB with one Ensure plus. That was 16oz. with 910 calories 3x a day. It worked for me and still is. I'm about 3 months post tx. I think David said that he drank 6 cans a day. Good Luck

Pam, he should be able to drink as many VHC's as his stomach will tolerate UNLESS he quits drinking water because he is too full of VHC. Water, gatoraide, tea, etc. is VERY important for him. Amy in the Ozarks

Pam, At my heyday, some 3 weeks post Tx, I was drinking 6 of the VHC's a day and trying to eat solid food as well and I really never felt better. To this day, almost 10 months post Tx, I still drink a can for "breakfast" with my thyroid pill but now I mix the VHC with 6 ozs of whole milk.

Thanks,I didn't know if it would be too many vitamins. He has 6 a day and it is helping him to maintain his weight. He can't drink water right now because it causes him to go into a coughing spasm and then his throat starts to bleed. So the water is going in through the tube.
And, the Vicodin, too.

We are so happy to be on the home stretch. You know everyone (who doesn't have this happening in their life) acts like it's only 8 weeks. Well, I can only say that it is still having to get through every second of every minute of every hour of everyday...and that can be very long when you are in pain.

Reading the emails from this web site has given me more information than I thought possible.

Pam,

Is vicodin the only pain med your husband is taking???
There are so many other wonderful pain meds that work better than vicodin. You might want to see about getting something stronger for him and perhaps liquid so you can put it through his peg tube easier.
If he is having lots of thick secretions you can try Robitussin which has guiafenesin to help thin the secretions.

Hope each day gets better for him.

Michelle

Pam, I agree with you, every day seems like a week to me.(Especially when you see them so miserable and you can't really do anything for them) we are 8 wks past rads and 2 past our last chemo and it is still a battle, Depression, severe sore throat, ear pain. I hope avery day gets a bit bettter and in some ways it does but I think will this ever end and I know my husband thinks that too. he said he hopes one of these months he wakes up better. He takes 5 cans of TwoCal-HN formula which has 500 calories and 8 glasses of water in his peg tube every day. I am trying to get him to eat something by mouth. Good luck to you both.

The Dr. put him on MS but, it zombied him out so he wouldn't take it. Then he was put on Roxicet liquid, but, he didn't like feeling so sleepy all of the time. So, he insists the liquid Vicodin (Lortab) is helping.

The Drs. told him that as soon as the mucous stops, the throat will feel better. This morning, he said that he only woke up once during the night and his mucous has lessened. He actually said he felt a little bit better.

Just one day at a time and for every minute he is pain free, I am happy.
