I need some advice.
My dentist has proposed to extract a wisdom tooth on the top right hand side of my mouth. I have had pain in the surrounding muscle and ear area for almost two months which does not respond to massage or osteopathy. The dentist thinks this may be due to the tooth.
I am a quite nervous about not healing properly after a tooth extraction as I had brachytherapy of the tongue April 2006. As a result an ulcer which developed on my tongue in December 2006 took 4 months and 50 sessions of HBO to heal. So I am wondering if extracting a tooth would mean another very lengthy healing process.
At the same time, I have also developed another ulcer in the middle of the tongue which my doctor says is a similar type to the last one (not dangerous, just resulting from the after effect of the bracyhtherapy). He is waiting to see if it grows any bigger before sending me back to HBO.
At this stage, the combination of the two pains is interfering with both work and sleep so I need to do something. However I would like to be a bit better informed before I decide what to do. Especially if it involves removing more pieces of my mouth!
My questions are: - has anyone had their wisdom teeth extracted after radiotherapy, especially brachytherapy? - did it take a long time to heal? - did you have HBO afterwards? or before?

I actually don't think that they have been asked before because so few of us have had brachytherapy. The vast majority here have had ionizing radiation with would make pre-dental extraction(s) HBO a necessity. I would be very careful to get several opinions for this, preferably from a dental oncologist before having the dental surgery done. You don't want to risk ORN.
The fact that you already HBO recently might be a factor. I would highly recommend professional advice on this I don't think anyone here will have an answer that is directly applicable to you.

A short update - my ENT specialist discussed the problem with my dentist and recommended that it would be better to leave all the wisdom teeth in place and just have a filling in the painful one.
So I had the filling today. I hope it cures the pain - so far its great as I am still numb from the anesthetic!
