Hello everyone. I hope everyone is doing well. I am now 1 week post Tx. Seen my rad doc Thurs. and he was quite pleased. I didn't have a feeding tube and had a small battle with weight but got it stabilized at about week 5. Doc had me take fluids for the last 2 weeks and for the week after my last rad. I am now drinking 2730 calories and maintaining my weight. The doc let me stop taking fluids. My veins were getting sore. The mucositis is still alive and well bet staying regular with my pain med makes it bearable and my energy level is slowly getting better. I will probably get fairly healed and have the rad neck dissection on the left side. That's the update here's my question. Oh yeah I finally found a regimen that helped the constipation. Whew! The question I have is this. The fever that I had the Weekend prior to my last week of treatment stayed with me that whole week. I took augmentin, and was in and out of the cancer center all week. My blood cultures never showed anything and I never got to feeling bad. I had a slight fever on and off last week as well. 99-99.5. On about Wedsday I was pretty consistent with a normal temp and that lasted up to tonight and I went up to 100.0 again. I know that it's not my thermometer as I have compared it to home healths, and 3 others. Obviously I am running a fever and it seems to be in the evening hours mostly but not isolated to the evening. Has anyone had this expirience. I do not feel sick, I have no swollen areas that I can find, and i don't feel any other symptoms with the fever. I'm stumped but not really worried. None of the nurses or docs seem particularly concerned yet most literture says we should go straight to the ER if it reaches 100.5. I have had fevers with severe sunburns before (with no infection) and that is what it seems like. The way it comes and goes. My neck of course looks like a really bad sunburn. What do you guys think? Other than this nagging question my post Tx seems to be going really well as compared to some peoples experience. Thank You. Lee

I had a spikey fever on and off (but it went up higher than yours) for a couple of weeks after rad. Because it was high at first (102-103), they admitted me to the hosptial thinking I ahd some kind of infection (and I was neutropenic from the chemo at the time). While I was there, they did every kind of test they could think of to locate an infection. At first they thought it was from cellulitis from the burnt area of my neck but they treated the burn--gave me some kind of cream that basically caused the burned area to peel off in a few days (the same way that can happen with a bad sunburn--though maybe that wasn't the cream and it would have ahppened anyway)and I was still running the fever--though it was going up and down. Finally, after 8 or 9 days in the hosp, my MO concluded that they had eliminated every nasty kind of infection it could be and the fever (which was getting a little less severe when it jumped up) was just from my body reacting to all the treatments and it would eventually go away so they released me from the hospital before I caught something there ......

The fever did go away in another couple of days.

Hang in there Lee!
