My mom will undergoe her 13 hour surgery tommorrow at 7:00am PST. The surgery is the only option she has because the bone died on her lower jaw and now her jaw is broken and she has had nothing but problems since completion of radiation. The surgery will consist of removal of a non weight bearing bone from her lower leg to replace her lower jaw bone on the right side and a titanium plate. I am pretty nervous so I just wanted to post to get some support and prayers sent her way...

Thank you for listening....I'll keep you posted.

Thank you!
Dani

Dani,
Hang in there. I had the same surgery in June; it wasn't fun, but 12 days after 17 hours on the table, I was at home, eating real food.

The biggest ongoing issue I've had is a limp from the removal of the fibula...all in all, a pretty small price to pay.

She will be a pretty sick lady for a few days, but she WILL improve quickly. Try and keep that in mind that tomorrow will be better than today, and before you know it, she'll be back at home, feeling a lot better than she does right now.

you'll both be in my thoughts tomorrow
Wayne

Hi Dani,
I got your moms email yesterday but didn't answer her yet. We've been talking about the surgery and she seems to have a good understanding of what is ahead of her. If you need to talk, she has my cell phone number. Call me anytime.
Love,
Minnie

Well she made it through very well according to both doctors. Thank you so much for your prayers and Minnie a special thank you to you for preparing her for what was ahead. You really helped to put her mind at ease. She has never gotten on the website herself so having somebody who has been through a similar surgery etc letting her know what to expect was sooo helpful.

She went in this morning at 5:30am her blood pressure was a little high but that was their only real concern. We think it went up because she found out that they would keep her awake while they put the trake in so she was pretty nervous. They sent her into recovery at 6:00pm this evening so we still haven't had a chance to see her. The doctors updated us at 11:00am saying that when they opened her up she had a four inch fracture through her jaw and he could really see why she has been in such pain and was unable to open her mouth for the past few months. The muscles were all affected by the fracture. They took out the entire dead bone and the tissue and sent the tissue over to the lab and GREAT NEWS....NO CANCER...yeah!!! What a relief all this time with the exposed bone and her PET scans lighting up etc...what a relief to finally find out there was no cancer there.

They spent the entire afternoon reconstructing and rewiring her mouth and all the preliminary tests show everything is as good as it can be so now we wait for recovery. I will be soooo happy when she can be a real person again without pain.

I'll keep you all posted on her progress and thanks again for everything.

HUGS,
Dani

Dani,
I got so emotional reading about your mom and the NO CANCER information.............she will be SO happy to hear this when she is awake and alert. This is a new beginning for her, I just feel it. She is going to be so very happy and pleased with how well her mouth and leg will work. Especially considering the pain she's been in. Again, I'm so happy for you and your family. Please let me know when she's awake and communicating.
Much Love,
Minnie

Dani,

I'm really glad to hear it all went so well. I hope this will prove to be the solution to your mother's pain problems.
