I had an appt. with the radiation oncologist today and everything is going great. Today also marks 11 months post radiation and cancer FREE. Mary
Dx June 2004 stage III right tonsil 1 node involved, 70 radiation tx completed 08/20/04, no chemo or surgery, 32 years old and 26 weeks pregnant at dx and tx. & non-smoker and non-drinker

SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.

dx 2/11/04 scca bot T3 IU 2B MO poorly differentiated, margins ok, 3/16 modest, jaw split, over half of tongue removed, free flap from left forearm - finished chemo & rad treatment 5/20/04

Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 49 | amy,Thanks.Everyone told me how tough I was during the radiation, I have never met anyone who had radiation so I figured what I went through was normal. . I was not eligible for chemo because of the pregnancy and I ask my doc about that yesterday. He said I was not a typical patient. I am a nonsmoker,nondrinker,pregnant and young. He said all that factored in. I mentioned it because I had noticed on here I am the only person who received so many txs and no chemo (so that I noticed). Thanks to all for the good wishes.

PS I didn't receive chemo either. (but I did have the surgery)

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.

I had no chemo but I had surgery also.
