Hello All,

Just wanted to ask a question regarding frequent diarrhea. My father has been on the peg tube for almost 2 years. He will be on it for the rest of his life. Due to his diet (Ensure type) he has diarrhea frequently. Was hoping maybe there was a suppliment or vitamin we could add to his feedings to help. Please don't suggest changing his food, this is the only type he can tolerate. Thanks for any help.

Liquid immodium might help, but I would check with his doctor.

Hello Vicki,

I was on the feeding tube for 7 months. Due to a lactaide intolorance I added a crushed lactaide pill to every feeding injection. I used the 2oz. syringe to input the ensure. Does he have an intolarance to milk products? This would cause the runs.

Best Wishes, Danny Boy

Hi Vicki,
I always thought Ensure and other such type products caused constipation not diarrhea. Definitely check if he is lactose intolerant. However, I do have severe diarrhea some mornings even after a normal movement. I think this may be related to the diarectic I take, but I am not certain. What meds is he on that may be causing this? Talk to his doc and pharmacist.

Take care,
Eileen

Thanks to all for your imput. As far as we know he is not laxtose intolerant. But I never thought about the meds causing diarrhea. Will look into it. Thanks again.
