Hi everyone,

I posted a message in November about having problems with my lower teeth 12 months post radiation treatment. Many of you offered advice, and I promised to let you know what happened!

I only needed to have 3 teeth pulled - though these were right in the front!! My dentist has made me a very small plate with only 2 teeth on it. Apparently, one of the reasons I had problems with wobbly teeth was because the space for the 3 teeth was smaller after the surgery, where they split my jawbone to access my mouth.

Anyway, I got the false teeth just before christmas, which meant that I could eat lunch!! It was a great improvement on christmas 2003 when I was still eating mush! I can't believe the pleasure I get from eating these days.

I find that having the false teeth allows me to eat better than before, as I was unable to bite anything with the wobbly teeth. I can now chew small pieces of meat, which I haven't been able to do since surgery 18 months ago.

So, after all of that worrying it has all been fine, and there have even been a few benefits! Oh, and kissing is no problem at all..........

A positive post for those of you having similar problems. laugh

Debbie T, from Southampton, UK. Cancer of tongue - stage 2(diagnosed 04/03). 45% tongue removed and reconstructed from left forearm, plus radical neck dissection (06/03). All followed by 33 sessions of radiotherapy (ended 09/03). Diagnosed at 43. Non -smoker, social drinker, don't know why!

HI Debbie, Yes, I had the same problem and had to have my teeth removed on the bottom. Waiting to have a denture put in. My uppers are just fine.

Debbie I was a non-smoker as well. Didn't drink either. The Doctors said it was second hand smoke that got me.
