Eileen thank you for your post, you said some infomative things I hadn't even thought about. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to find prostodontis out in southern California. My mom's dental is Cigna Health Care but they are not being helpfull in finding a dentist who specializes in this.

There are two prosthetic societies in California, and many good prosthdontists that do cancer reconstructions. The absolute best maxillofacial prosthetics in the world is being pioneered at UCLA, but there are pleanty of good docs out here. Post the city that you are in or send me a private message and I wil get you the numbers for the prosthetic dental societies who can then refer you to their members.

Thank you.

My mom lives in Wrightwood CA 92397. Her closest city is Victerville. San Bernadino is the county that she lives in. Loma Linda Medical Center is where she has had all her work done. They have an excellent Dentist program suited for this but they do not deal with HMOs...go figure. Your help is great, I am stretched so thin with this.

You don't mention what type of dental assistance she needs. There are people who do things like obturators, implants, maxillofacial work, each a sub specialty of prothdontics itself. Dentists as a rule don't like to work with HMO's since the paperwork and reimbursement schedule is horrible. You may have to ask the HMO for a provider and work backwards that way to a prosthodontist. But I will post the numers for the two societies that can give you referrals over the weekend when I gey a chance to collect the proper information for you.

Thank you...As far as the type of assistace needed I am not sure, she is coming home on monday. She has been gone for two months now with this. Radiation can't start yet, she still needs to heal more. I am going head and trying to find a dentist while i have this time. She hasn't seen a dentist in 10 years and her long term one died last Dec. All I do know is that she lost all teeth on the bottom and still has her teeth on the top. I wish I could be more specific about the unknown. Thank you for your help. Annabel
