My BF had a squamous cell cancer removed from his lip six months ago. So far, so good...he's very fortunate it was found early.

I'm wondering if anyone here has a suggestion about a life insurance company who would cover him or cover him with a waiver of benefits for a death from SCC.

He lost his job shortly before the diagnosis and his current employer does not offer group life and most major carriers will not cover him (they won't cover anyone with a cancer diagnosis other than basal cell) or the premiums are sky high.

We have a child, so of course I'd like some coverage for our son. A more immediate problem is that his divorce decree requires that he carry insurance with his ex-wife as beneficiary and he has none right now...if she finds this out, he'll end up in court.

Has anyone had any success obtaining affordable coverage with an SCC diagnosis?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Kendra

I personally have no clue, but logic dictates the negative.
You even mention cancer and insurance companies run for cover.
Good Luck.

I spoke with a friend regarding your delima, he writes insurance for American General. He stated that they issue an affordable $10,000.00 policy for health risk patients. Depending on your age the monthly installments vary. He had written one just today for a man with heart disease and the monthly premiums were $138.00, the mans age was 67.
There is a hook, tou have to survive two years before it will pay the complete $10,000.00.
Hope this helps

Kendra,

Given the circumstances, I do not believe a judge would force your boyfriend to dind life insurance at an exhorbitant cost. That said, with all you have to worry about right now, do not add that to the mix.

I know someone that had terminal pancreatic cancer and they bought a policy that said they could not die in the first two years but even death from the cancer would be covered. I will try to find their daughter and get the name of the company.

Often, group life insurance is portable but you have to excercise that option with 60 days of termination. You may be able to check with the employer and petition the group or appeal to the insurance company to grant an exception because you did not know the specifics.

Otherwise, your boyfriend will have to get a job and enroll in a group lfe insurance policy. They usually have a minimum level the group is covered for and then additional amounts that reqire answering medical questions. Mine was $25,000 even though the insurance company never allowed me to port it. I just got tired of fighting them.

Hope this helps.

Ed
