How do you guys know what your one year mark is? Is it 1 year from diagnosis, end of treatment or one year from a clear scan? Rod was diagnosed March 30,04. About 2 weeks into tx, all lymph nodes were down. He finished radiation & chemo July 12, 04 but didn't have his pet scan until November 1. Do you start from Nov 1? I heard different things from different people so I'm curious. Thanks! wink

My oncologist tells me it's up to me (or you). Being conservative I personally use the last day of treatment. Some here use the date of diagnosis.

Personally it makes the most sense to measure from the day they tell you you are cancer free.

I can't wait to hear those words....

Cindy

PS... Gary, you are a wealth of information. I just wanted to thank you for your input.

I also use the last day of treatment (Nov. 6 for me) as my anniversary date. My doctors all seem to use the same measuring stick (last day of treatment) but you can make it what you want. Let's hope that we all have MANY anniversaries to celebrate!

I thought that too, the last day of treatment.Rod finished in July but didn't have a pet scan until November. So July 05 for a one year mark sounds pretty good to me! Yes I agree...will pray for many anniversaries for all! smile

Hi Cindy,
thank you. I am sorry if I sounded a little harsh on you about the dogs. I have 4 dogs myself and I am overly bonded with them. I am glad that you had a positive outcome and that Harry understood.

littlep, I use the last day of rad/chemo treatment. My surgery was later, but that just confirmed that the cancer was destroyed. Same as a CT scan that shows no activity. So end of rad/chemo does it for me. Besides, that was my wife's birthday, so it is easy for me to remember.

Maureen:

My doctor told me I am now a one year survivor, based on the date of diagnosis (same as your friend's, March 30, 04). Of course, that was also the day of the operation when the cancer was removed, although I then did have radiation, which lasted a hundred years until June 12th.

It is all a matter of semantics, I suppose. The main thing is, I am cancer free today!

love, Leena
