I knew it would be rough for a while but i guess i didn't grasp just how hard it would be and not just the physical aspect either. she was so tired and she thought she looked ugly but she really didn't and no matter what we did we couldn't seem to get through to her. two weeks after her surgery we had to evacuate to texas when katrina hit and that set her healing back really far. Even though it was only two weeks we were gone when we got back there were no doctors to be found anywhere. my mom is a really strong person who holds the family together. however we got through and shes still here and were still together thats what matters.now two years later were still gluing peices back together.

Can't imagine what it was like dealing with this disease and a major hurricane. I definitely worried about the same thing this summer while Bill was undergoing treatments here in Florida. It must have been awful! Glad that your Mom seems to be doing well and none the worse for her experience. Deb

However, it seems like your Mom faced it down and came thru it all. I hope the doctors have returned by now and your Mom continues with regular check-ups. May she continue to get good news at her doctor visits. Keep in touch with the OCF forum. Warmly, JaneP

As a mother myself of seven daughters, I felt really proud when I was reading your posts! Good for you for being such a great care giver for your mom when you're so young yourself. I am battling my second round of this cancer and have a daugther your age. Her name is Mercedes and she turned 17 in September. She was 12 when I had my first cancer. You sound alot like her, have the same type of feelings that I know she has. At times I look at her and see the worry on her face and I hate what cancer has done to her. BUT, I'm stil here, which is the all important thing and I intend to stay her for years longer.
Good luck to you and your family!
Minnie

You have been through alot and you never get all good with no bad but when you do get some bad is when it is the best time to rely on your family and you'll see you guys will make it through. As for your daughter I am sure she is feeling something simalr to what I felt and sometimes the only thing you can do is listen and she may not even talk but still listen. everyone deals in there own way with me I didn't talk and then just lost it when no one was around. I think that was by far the scariest thing because I thought that if I couldn't hold it together how could I hold my mom together. We all at one point or another take care of are parents but we expect to be grown-up by then and have some sort of emotional grounding I guess. You can count on her as I am sure you know and all of your familay and throught it all you find that as long as you guys can smile at one another no matter how bad it gets you guys will be just fine. Well that was kinda long winded but I hope it helps a little. and if your daughter ever needs someone to talk to or not talk to :)just tell her to message me its good to know your not alone esecially when your lonely.
Good luck and well wishes to you and your famialy Dragon
