hi,

a fellow at work is being treated for back of the tongue cancer. he is in his 3rd week of rad&chemo. his wife has also been treated for oral cancer.

he has a rather high management position and is close to retirement age. they have been married for years.

i wonder how common it is for both husband & wife to have oral cancer.

cu,
larryb

Thank goodness I have not heard of too many cases of this.
I hope both your friends do OK. At least she can tell him what to expect and maybe it wont be so scary for him.
Cheers
Marica

Bad enough one person having it. First I've heard of both a husband and wife getting oral cancer. They may have been in a high risk group.
Hoping all goes well for them.

Can you get them to visit our site?? Might ease their minds a little bit.

Go Eagles!!!!!!

It makes me wonder for those of us that don't smoke or have other risks (like second hand smoke or heavy drinking) how the HPV virus enters into play. Are our spouses at risk? What I have read on the HPV vaccine to stop cervical cancer will only be available for pre-teen girls in a few years? I tried to search out the articles in OCF archives but could not find if the vaccine might be available to OC survivors. Any other info out there? - Kris

There is an interesting article about HPV research in this months Cure Magazine

http://www.curetoday.com/ There is more information in the magazine itself then the Web edition. Subscriptions are free.

They also announced the FDA clearance of a new oral mucositus drug.

Hi
Well me and my husband both have cancer, BUT different DX.
So unless anyone on this site says different, I'll leave this one as pure bad luck...
Wishing good results for all concerned..
Sunshine... love and hugs

If anyone saw the last SPOHNC newsletter there was an interesting story about a couple that had both experienced oral cancer. It is really a great story in many ways. A wife gets the diagnosis AFTER receiving a neck dissection when she thought she was going in for a biopsy and it is 5 years after her husband was diagnosed with SCC. It tells a lot about her creating a set of paintings from a collection of photos that were taken during her treatment. In addition, her husband belongs to a bike club in Chicago that happens to have a member of th US Postal Team and the wife requests an autographed photo of Lance Armstrong to give to her husband on his 50th birthday. After she forgot about it for a while her husband received a phone call from the bike club friend when he returns from training in Spain and he mentions their cancer story with Lance and they end up with an autographed US Postal team jersey that read: "to the Chambers family: Never give up! Lance Armstrong." Her paintings are her depicted as different characters such as: Bride of Frankenstein, Van Gogh, Hannibel Lecter, Marcel Marceau, etc., that were done for a specific reason through the course of her treatment. She then did one titled "Me as Lance Armstrong" wearing the yellow jersey.

You can view her "In Character" series at: http://members.aol.com/kathyduzart/ if you are interested.

It was a very touching story and pretty amazing but I hid it from Susan so she wouldn't worry.
