Brian and other caring folks:
I have a fund raising idea. If OCF could have printed and provide us members, upon request, donation envelopes that a person could either insert a check in or write credit card number and sign on flap, members like us could obtain from OCF 10 or 20,or as many as we wanted, and when our friends and relatives ask us what they can do for us, we can give them an envelope and suggest that they make a tax deductible donation to OCF in our honor. Then the results can be posted here or acknowledged in some other fashion.
Of course the practice could go on post mortem as well ( Not that we want to think about mortality ).
What do you guys think?

It's a great idea if you all would be willing to make it work. I would be pleased to print up the envelopes and provide them to anyone willing to help us reach our goals. I could also create a donors page on the website where those who gave could be recognized, as well as those who worked to make the donations possible. We would send the donors a thank you letter, and a donors pin and window sticker. OCF has made it a policy of not having anyone

Brian and All,
This is a wonderful idea! I, for one, would be willing to get approval to distribute some donation envelopes and materials in the hospital I worked in and also possibly some materials to the ENT I saw (who said there was nothing wrong, but finally after a month decided to send me for a CT, and then somehow didn't contact me to tell me the results that my airway was severely blocked). Seems like not only a chance available to get some donations, but also to educate so as to up awareness. Where do I sign up? :-)

I am excited by the response to my idea. I would be very happy to pass envelopes out to friends and acquaintances.

I think that is a great idea! Sounds like it would provide much needed income to the foundation and raise awareness at the same time.

Then it's done. Next week I will print up some donation envelops and a quick insert describing the foundation. Anyone who wishes to become involved in a grass roots fund raising effort with their acquaintances, co-workers etc. please email me and I will, by the following Monday, have the materials in your hands. Each donation card in the envelope which will be returned with the donation will be answered with a receipt (for the IRS) and thank you letter. Thanksgiving and Xmas are the times when America generally shows its true strength... generosity and compassion. Hopefully this will work in our favor.

For those who wish to raise some funds over Xmas for the foundation, I will need your mailing addresses and how many donation envelopes you would like me to send to you at the end of next week. A couple of you have, but from the others....I need a mailing address. Thanks to those who are offering to help. Send your address to [email protected]

Brian,

As if you don't have enough to do, I do have a request.

Having tried (unsucessfully) on my own exactly what you are doing, I know that name recognition is very important. And continuity of message is a must.

Some of us don't have large extended families or friends to hand envelopes to. However, where my mother gets treatment, the are many waiting rooms where information is posted about "those other cancers". I would like to leave information about "The Oral Cancer Foundation" and the donation envelopes for those people. Do you have an information sheet or letter with OCF logo that you could include in our envelope requests to help spread the word?

It would be appreciated.

Cynthia
