My 75 year old father was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in his jaw. He has had a CScan and PetScan and is seeing his onocologist tomorrow. He is seeing his surgeon on January 7th and surgery is scheduled for the 16th. They are going to remove his lower jaw and reconstruct with a graft from his leg. Then they want to do radiation.
The catch is he doesn't want to do the surgery. He broke his hip in August and still isn't walking. He doesn't want to do the recovery because he would be out of town. Too far to have the all day visits he is use too.
My mother is exhausted and seems to be supporting this decision!!
Im going to the dr with him tomorrow to talk about alternatives. But are there any really??

My husband's cancer was at the base of his tongue. It wasn't in the jaw bone, so I don't know how similar the situations are. We did get multiple opinions before deciding on a treatment plan one included surgery and one did not. I think it will be very helpful for you to go with your parents to the doctors and ask questions. Let us know what you find out.
