I have used it and still it hurts like heck to swallow water let alone anything else. I will see my Dr in the morning is miricle mouthwash any better? 99% of my foods are liquified by the blender, I use ensure, those so sweet nectar drinks and mom makes me smoothies. She made me puried soup today but she put seasons in it and I felt like fire was going down my throat. I asked her not to season my food any more. I brought home the papers from the nutritionalist and she read that you season food. I laughed and said NOT with mouth cancer. any way my mouth is full of sores and I want to know if one mouth wash is better then the other. Thanks

Different people seem to tolerate different things... at different times.
It may well be that you tolerate magic mouthwash better. My MO prescribed a concotion that was compounded.... This thing still burns now... and I am back to eating regular food. This probably mean that there was something wrong with the formulation. (so that is a possibility too, and no I am not using it anymore). Stay away from spices, you will not taste it anyway. I also had problems with fruit incl tomatoes (acid) and berries (seeds!!). However, milk (vanilla shakes) was tolerated well even when some water burned (depending on the source!!). Also, rinsing with soda/salt was soothing. The other thing that would provide relief is viscous lidocain, especially if you take this prior to eating/drinking. (you need a prescription) It may allow you to use less pain killers. This saved my sanity for about 2 weeks. Watch out for constipation!

Hang in there, it will get better!

My son used the Magic Mouthwash and it worked for a while and then he stopped it because it started to not help anymore. But a while later, he came back to it and it helped. So it seems that some things work at one point and then not and then later they do so it might be worth a try if this happens. My son also had good results with the lidocaine. He really liked the soda/salt solution, too. When I cooked for him I had to stay away from spices and anything with salt in it. He could even taste the salt in the low sodium soups! But it did get better after a while. So it's worth trying different things.

Can anyone tell me what what 'magic mouthwash' is. I use a soda/salt one but even that stings because of the amount of mouth ulcers I have.

I finished radiation 10 days ago.

Thanks

try lowering or leaving out the salt in your solution. I tolerated soda much better during the dark days... Also viscous lidocaine helped to get things under control.

It will get better!

I had similar response to things as you. I used the magic mouthwash before each meach which only seemed to help a few minutes. I eventually only ate soup very mild and cold and Boost. Even that was hard to get down. The good news is it does get better about 2 weeks after your radiation treatments stop. So gut it out, use the magic mouthwash and if still have a probem tolk to the doc about other things or pain killers. You'll make it, its just a bumpy road.

The best mouthwash we found was baking soda and salt.Recommended to me by a lot of people on this site,it consists of one teaspoon of baking soda, one teaspoon of salt ,and water .
Rob also used biotene mouth wash and gel .Biotene does a full range of mouth care products and you can source them all on the internet and at major chemist shops.

My mouth got/is so bad that I went to the PEG feeding tube and stopped trying to eat anything, because it hurt and I gagged on it. It may not be what you want....but...you need good nutrition to help fight and now I can. I'm doing 2500 cal's a day and feel really good. Except for my tongue and mouth and oh yeah the Erbetux make me look like I just escaped a hanging....but its all good...and better than the alternatives.
Best wishs,
Gary
