They had to replace his front bottom jaw bone and his chin (flap). They were able to save his lip though which is great. He did have two additional node growths but the others were clear. He had a nerve severed in the dissection. They had to use the shoulder blade from his good arm so now both sides are comprimised. We are home . . . I don't know if I will ever sleep tonight. ICU will call only if there is a problem as he won't get there till after 1 in the morning . . . this night is unbelievable. Keep praying everyone . . . thank you . . . I can't believe how long this is taking . . . Laura 
Mandibular ressection, flap replacement and bilateral neck dissection 10/25/07. Two nodes cancerous, others clear. Started IRMT 12/17/07 (34) and ERBITUX ( 6). 7/17/08 cancer returned neck and shoulder area. Passed on peacefully surrounded by love on 9/15/08. And yes, he did see angels. . .

Brenda in UK--Diagnosis 30/5/07--undifferentiated carcinoma in right jawbone and muscles. Stage 4 6/7/07--new diagnosis primary is in lung. Finished 4cycles of palliative carboplatin/gemcitabine therapy September 07 Now dying to live!

my thoughts and prayers are with you and your father, my husband had a similar operation- upper jaw and palate, flap and bone taken from the forearm. He was in surgery for 19 hours and I will never forget how desperate I felt. However, although he looked pretty awful the first few days, very swollen, the body is amazing at healing and he was out of hospital in three weeks.

Husband dx'd 18/07/07...Maxillectomy, palatectomy, neck dissection 30/8/07....clear margins, nodes dx'd 12/9/07 in the middle of radiotherapy and struggling.

Donna CG to Mom, dx 4/25/07 with tongue cancer,T3N0,tx began 7/6/07, 31 tx's of IMRT, 8 cycles of Erbitux. Brachytherapy, surgery, left neck dissection and temp trach placed all on 9/17/07, trach removed 10/17/07. ORN of jaw, late effect of radiation symptoms. **lost my beautiful mother on 5/5/11.
