Rad to one side of face. 2nd day. No skin symptoms yet.

I asked the nurses but most of them speak poor English and don't understand the questions.

It is recommended to use Aquaphor lotion, shave with an electric shaver and use a humidifier.

Should I start these practices immediately (while there are no symptoms) OR only if/when symptoms occur?

I wouldn't wait longer than 2 weeks into radiation to switch to a electric. Nicking yourself with a razor can produce some very nasty infections with a compromised immune system. The lotion won't hurt, just make sure that your skin is clean and dry prior to getting a radiation treatment. I have been using a humidifier for almost 5 years now and it helps.
