Hi everyone-
I finished radiation a little over two weeks ago. I'm feeling alot better now, still have a sore throat and the roof of my mouth is sore and so is my tongue(although I thought I didn't get radiation on the front of my tongue).
Anyway, I've tried the biotene mouthwash but it stings my mouth. Is that probably related to the residual mouth sores, or is the stinging part of the dry mouth?
Thanks
Mel

Mel,

It's probably due to the fact that you're still only 2 weeks from the end of radiation. When I was at that stage, EVERYTHING stung my mouth -- even plain water. The lining of your mouth can take months to heal, and you have to keep watching out for thrush, which can add to the pain and burning sensation.

Thanks Cathy-
Actually, water and other food and drinks still hurt, I use topical stuff for drinking. I thought that since the actual sores were gone that my mouth was better. But the roof of my mouth and my tongue are burning and I was worried that was a dry mouth side affect.

Mel, my husband found that an OTC product named RinsiNol helped his mouth sores alot. Also, he liked Lidocaine 2% viscous [by prescription] for mouth sores. Also ask your Doc about the "magic mouthwash" that many Docs use [each one seems to be a little different] Keep track of everything you try, what it feels like and if it helped or not and how long you used it. Sometimes it won't work at 1st and then later it will. Frustrating, but good info for you to have.Remember, where there is a will, there is a way. Amy in the Ozarks
