I am cuurently in Tx for SCC of the left buccal mucosa. I have already had surgery to remove the growth and I begin radiation in about 1.5 weeks.
For the last 2.5 weeks I have had a sore on the back of my tongue on the same side I had the cancer. My doc. tells me it is lingual tonsil and that I should not be concerned. After researching lingual tonsil on the internet I found that lingual tonsils should probably be occurring bilaterally. This is not the case for me. It also said that a biopsy should be performed if there is any doubt. Well, I have doubts.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Are my concerns well founded or should I just relax? I am reluctant to ignore it because radiation is drawing near and this should probably be dealt with before radiation. You only get one opportunity to have radiation with H&N cancer.
Any information, insight, or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes I feel paralyzed by all of the issues and different decisions that must be made regarding treatment. Thanks.
Gary
