As I look out the window this morning, it's a beautiful autumn day, and I am conscious that an old wound has healed. Back years ago when I was first experiencing tongue symptoms and trying to find an explanation, I was also living with the (relatively) fresh memory in Red Sox Nation of that symbolic dagger through the heart when the ball went through Bill Buckner's legs and the hopes of a Boston World championship were dashed once more. Some said it was the Curse of the Bambino, some said it was part of a world order that would keep the Sox from winning (ever), and I began to wonder if I would be among those who would go to their grave without ever seeing another Sox victory in a World Series.

NOT SO!! THANK YOU, RED SOX!!

The wound has healed.

Cathy

Have any ideas how to help the Kansas Jayhawks win the national bball title this year? I will endure the pain of the wound if so.

:p

Next year? At one championship every 86 years it would be more like the year 2090. Let me check my math........yep, 2090.

As a native St. Louisan and Card's fan, whilst I would have rather seen the Cards win it in 5, at least we didn't lose to the Yankees..

Congratualtions Sox fans on a good win.

Bob

I will give them this, 8 straight games. And the 3 game sweep of Anaheim in the ALDS. Bob is correct, a good win.

Still, I hope all you Boston fans taped it so future generations can see them win a World Series! I don't think they had moving pictures last time.

Danny Boy,

It is good to hear at least one team is doing their part in controlling the exhorbitant salaries these prima donna athletes are commanding!

I grew up in Maine and our summer trip was always to Fenway Park in Boston, home of the Red Sox. We always stayed at the Fenway Park Motel as the ballplayers would eat breakfast in their small cafe. My mom ate breakfast one year with Juan Benequez and didn't even know it until my little brother came in and couldn't speak for a few minutes! My mom has that amazing ability of making friends with the entire room within minutes of entering it.
My brother has the Yaz's autograph and he has shook hands and gotten pitching tips from Ted Williams himself. Ted was dear friends with the coach of my brothers little league team and he had a fishing camp near us in Maine. My brother won the New England Pitch, Hit and Throw contest when he was 9 (at Fenway Park) because of the instruction from these two men.
Sandy Kofax and his wife, Ann, came to Maine many times to visit my inlaws, long time friends of theirs. My older daughters had more then a few lobster dinners with them but had no idea what a wonderful guy was at their table.
Back then sports celebritys were just regular people and lived regular lives for the most part.
I had the BIGGEST crush on Carlton Fisk but don't tell anyone.

Congrats to the Red Sox...well deserved. We Astros fans had the best season in our history, but we have been waiting for over 40 yrs just to get to the world series...maybe next year.
