11 mos out from original SCC -tongue surgery. Pet scan turns up new area of cancer (under tongue and possibly 1 node). Biopsy confirms base tongue but not node. RAD / Chemo being discussed. Understand their is a new treatment possibility. Somsthing to do with a seed implant in lieu of rad. Was discussed before surgery last year but not feasible in tongue. Anybody heard of this approach od floor of mouth etc??

Sailor,
I'm not too familiar with this type of treatment but have done a little research for you. The following site seems to be informative and quite factual.

/HeadnNeck/Management/OralCavity.htm

I hope this is of some use to you.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Dr Mike. Heard this may be a possibility. I'll present the inquiry to the RAD and ENT guys for their input. Looks like a good possibility as an effective alternate to Rad.

Thanks again. All of you guys are terrific.

Sailor,

Sorry that you are now facing treatment again.

What you are referring to is probably a procedure called brachytherapy. I'm sure that you will see Donna (Donnarose) posting here as her mother just completed treatment this week, which included brachytherapy.

You can also check Donnarose's profile and send her an email.

Jerry
I wish you luck and my prayers are with you.

Hey Sailor,
Jerry's right my mom did just have the brachytherapy on 9/17/07.
Please send me an email and we can share phone numbers and talk. I'm still getting over a bug I caught recently and can't read at computer for long as it irritates my eyes. I would very much like to speak with you about our experience.
There are two other people here on the foum who had this treatment. Linda R....yikes can't remember her last name! and Redser. I'm sure they will reply soon.
