Just wondering. When my Dad had his feeding tube inserted back in April; he said it hurt like crazy!! And he has a very high tolerance for pain; trust me.
Anyone else experience this? The dr's said it wouldn't hurt; it was insterted with a local freezing.

No pain and no problems with it. He gets it out soon and doesn't use it. But it was just odd because everyone said they felt nothing.
A couple of days after he developed a DVT (clot in the calf) I wondered if it had anything to do with it; but the dr said no.
My Dad said he almost jumped off the table when they inserted it. Wonder why it hurts some and not others; espeically someone like my Dad who can withstand a lot of pain.

glad you ended up getting the Peg. You will grow to appreciate it. Can't figure out why it hurts some folks and not others. My Dad likes to keep a little piece of gauze on the hole, (the nurse said that was fine) he just prefers not to have it exposed. Remember to keep it clean and always flush it. Once it opened up at night and fluid leaked out; other then that he has no problems with it and it doesn't hurt. Tell your nurses if you have problems with it.
Hey Marica that's too funny about the muscles. Another patient/friend thought maybe it hurt because my Dad has a belly and more to go thru; (his didn't hurt at all). So maybe your husband has something here ha ha. My Dad has a hurnia in his stomach, I wonder if it was because it had to go thru that. Dr's don't say why. Well they were behind schedule that day, not sure if they forgot to give him freezing or of anything for pain by IV may have worn off?.......We think the guys were in a hurry to go home! ha
I sure hope it doesn't hurt to take out for those that it hurt to go in.
The peg is a great invention and will help you stay strong! Marie feel free to email me and best wishes! Stay Strong!

The gastroenterologist who inserted mine said it's always more painful for people who are in decent shape to begin with because there IS more muscle it goes through. He said when a PEG is inserted in someone who has already lost a lot of weight and kind of wasted away it never seems to bother them so much.
I was really doped up when they inserted mine (the first one)but not totally out (it was supposed to me "conscious anesthesia") and I remember coming awake when they cut into the stomach--I was trying to kick, actually, because in my drugged state I thought someone was stabbing me (well, actually they were!). Thankfully, I didn't have much control over my legs and didn't kick the surgeon as he made the incision though I'm pretty sure I twitched. Afterwards, the incision really hurt--I couldn't even stand up straight without pain for the first day or two but the pain went away pretty fast--by the end of the week it only hurt when I laughed.....

They put me in twilight sleep to do it but afterwards for several days I had major pain and discomfort. I think it had to do with the gas they pump inside you for the procedure. I too have a high tolerance for pain.
