In an unusual twist, the local ENT who was going to perform the surgery on my father changed his mind and referred us to a doctor over at Moffett who evidently has a great deal of experience with base of tongue lesions.

So, we are off to Tampa, surgery is scheduled for early Thursday morning; radical neck dissection, removal of lesion at base of tongue, a trach, PEG, etc.

Needless to say, we are anxious about what is to come.

Thank you all for responding to my questions and thank you Brian for providing this wonderful forum, I will post an update next week.

Scott

Hi Scott,

Good luck on Thursday. My prayers are with you, your father and all of your family.

Looking forward to good news during his recovery.

Scott,

When I had my surgery, my local ENT also referred us on to a WONDEFUL surgeon. I was always impressed he knew his limits and when to refer to someone with more experience.

Are you going to have a chance to meet the surgeon and ask questions, etc.. prior to the surgery?

Best wishes to your Dad!!

Good luck!! I just had this done a month ago and needless to say, I am ok. Just keep a positive attitude, which I know is sometimes hard to do!!
