I just read about this intravenous drug, Palifermin (brand name Kepivance) which can be given before chemo or radiation in order to prevent or at least shorten the duration of mucositis.

I am interested in knowing if anyone has used this and if it worked. I can find out more about it, if anyone is interested. It is given before treatment, so it only has a benefit for those who will be undergoing treatment in the future.

I've seen a few studies on the effectiveness of Palifermin, but when I brought it up to my FIL's oncologist he said that it hasn't been proven to be safe for patients with SCC, so he wasn't willing to "experiment" with it.

Has ANYONE on this board been given Palifermin?
