Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,219 | I just read about this intravenous drug, Palifermin (brand name Kepivance) which can be given before chemo or radiation in order to prevent or at least shorten the duration of mucositis.
I am interested in knowing if anyone has used this and if it worked. I can find out more about it, if anyone is interested. It is given before treatment, so it only has a benefit for those who will be undergoing treatment in the future.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.

Joined: Apr 2015 Posts: 5 | I've seen a few studies on the effectiveness of Palifermin, but when I brought it up to my FIL's oncologist he said that it hasn't been proven to be safe for patients with SCC, so he wasn't willing to "experiment" with it.
Has ANYONE on this board been given Palifermin?
