I am posting here because the Activism site does not appear to get many hits. I am a hairdresser,on Nov 13th I have talked some of my co-workers in to doing a fundraiser day for OCF. I need help wording the sign to advertise it. We normally charge $25 per haircut, taking appointments every 30 mins. My idea was to charge everyone $15 no appointments,walk-in only. My lovely cancer survivor hubby, Pete, has been recruited as Shampoo assistant for the day !! Any suggestions for me please. Marica

Most states require some sort of registration, licensing or other filing of forms in order to conduct charitable fundraising activities. One of the things we're trying to do among a volunteer group is to identify what those rules are in the various states where OCF might want to solicit funds.
I took a quick look at what I could find for the Georgia rules, and they don't look too time-consuming (some of the states are much more so). Since you're still about 2 months away from the event, there should be time to coordinate whatever would need to be filed with the state on behalf of OCF.

You can also host a private event and probably avoid the permitting process.
But to be sure, hosting any large public gathering (like a bike or 5K run) would require several different levels of permits on the city, county and/or state level. Insurance and security would also be issues.
I would venture that contacting the local ACS or ALA (American Lung Association) would be a good resource of what hoops have to be jumped through from a regulatory perspective.

Different states have different thresholds for what requires advance registration, permitting, etc.

I believe it will be something along the lines of Gary`s gigs. Thanks for your input guys. Take care Marica
