I will suggest that we take up the debate in a new post thread. The subject of religion is perhaps beyond the intent of this site but the fact remains that religion, faith and prayer play an important role in many peoples cancer treatment plans. This thread was started by Gordon who is entitled to his faith. Our replies, I think, should be with his needs in mind. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gordon, I too find that work (the harder the better) is good for the mind. I went through a medatation class to help with the stress. In addition perhaps I should have asked for a anti- anxiety drug.
The thing I want to express is that you will be fine! It isn't a walk in the park but you will get through it. I agree with Gary the radiation is what will "do in" the last bad cell.
Many of us did pretty well with radiation. I have wondered that this web site has possibly an accidental slant towards the worse side effects simply because people are more likely to post here if they have more serious complications and want more help and suggestions.
Rest assured you will be OK!
Take care
Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all so very much for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences. Danny, you and Mark call a truce about the proseletysing(?)!!!! I also am NOT a christian, but can find the spirit just about everywhere I look, and am NOT offended by someone else's ideas on spirituality/religion. I know....let's make a pact- whoever gets there first lets the rest of us know. ;-) Thanks for the Deep breath thought, Joanna, I forget how much just simple little things like that really do help. Love to you all and I'll keep you posted. (My appt was resched to next Tues.) Boy, do I have some questions for him!!!! Gordon

I only have a few minutes to post so I will keep these comments brief. One of the things about a public forum is that every imaginable viewpoint is likely to get posted to it. God, the Bible, new age healing, and the like inevitably enter the boards. They are all part of the coping process when a major stressor is being discussed. Religion is certainly a galvanizing topic and always brings strong opinions with it both for and against. Since a God cannot be disproven or proven, faith and the ambiguities of how each person expresses that faith is the issue. Passions from both perspectives are strong. Those that have it (faith in a God), do
