Hi All

Just a reminder, the date of the OCF Gathering in Vegas is getting close, like 2 weeks from now. I know that for sure because the hotel is bugging me for the next payment on the banquet laugh laugh

For all you latecomers banquet is at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Sept 24th and 25th.

Kind of a low key affair, Friday night is an informal welcome and get together, Saturday night a buffet dinner more getting together, hopefully some words from Brian, Some other board members, and who knows what?

At this point we have RSVP's from about 40 people, about 19 paid thus far. (Hint Hint, keep those checks coming, they're what I"m using for confirmation for final tally to the hotel)

As far as lodging, I'll contact Imperial Palace tomorrow morning my time to see what the status of rooms are, the reserved room block expired Aug 25th. Hotel reservation number is 800-800-2981. Tell them you're with the Oral Cancer Foundation, hopefully they won't charge you extra.

Checks for the Banquet can be made out to me, Robert Szabolcsky, and mailed to

Robert Szabolcsky
Apt 1219
14781 Memorial Drive
Houston, TX, 77079

Please put your name on the return address so I can track who I've recieved checks from.

If you have any questions, you can contact me at [email protected]

I know the timing of this isnt' all that good considering the mood of the board, but Dinah had put a lot of work in on the banquet, originally arranging the hotel, catering and banquet rooms, and I'm sure she wants this to be a big success. If you think she's tough in this cancer fight, you should work with her on a comittee. She really keeps you on the straight and narrow!! I want to take the time to thank her now for all the help and work she put in. Thanks Dinah.

Best to all
Bob

P.S. By the way, if you RSVP'd that you were planning to come, and things have changed and you aren't going to make it, please let me know that to, even if you haven't send funds yet. That way I can keep better track of things. I know for me long term planning is what to have for dinner tomorrow night..
Thanks
Bob

Thanks...

I guess I can't procrastinate any longer. We are already in a different hotel down the street (at least I was able to negotiate the same rates) Check for 2 (Gary & Leah Allsebrook) is in the mail.

See you all in Vegas.

Gary,
What hotel did you end getting a reservation at? The Imperial was full when I called and I was unable to find a comparable hotel that would give me a similar rate.
Thanks, Sheldon

Sheldon,

I booked at the Imperial weeks ago, but when I was looking for flights, I noticed a lot of good air + hotel deals on sites like Travelocity, Expedia, Side Step, etc. Might be worth a look-see. Also check out sites like www.lasvegas.com. They list specials for various hotels, shows, etc. Also www.hotels.com. Might want to check where the hotel is located, too, because some are pretty far from the Imperial. I believe it is near the center of the Strip. Of course, if you don't mind the distance between hotels, you can get a better value at a hotel off the Strip.

I called the Imperial Palace this morning my time and they were full for that weekend. Rosie's link should be pretty good. If anyone finds any good deals it would be appreciated if you post under this thread to help others out.

I'll be looking forward to meeting you Sheldon, and I hope you bring the mandolin!

PS to everyone: since my wife can't make the trip I may have an extra bed (what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas) wink

I just had to book an outrageous airfare because I had to wait until the last 14 days. Anyway count us in for 2. Putting check in mail tomorrow for Eileen and Charlie Burrows. Hope to see you all barring hurricanes and 90 year old parent disasters. Don't know how you caretakers do it.

See ya in Vegas.
Eileen

We booked a room at the Bourbon Street, 1/2 block from the Imperial.

I might add also that I looked at all of the cheap fare sites, such as expedia, travelocity, cheapseats, orbitz, etc. (and they were not cheap). I booked, on line, direct with Southwest. It was $100 cheaper than the cheapest deal and the flights don't have multiple stops and aircraft (like a 2 hour layover in LAX and having to get on a different carriers aircraft). It would have been cheaper to have booked 21 days prior but oh well - That added about $100.00 total to the bill (for 2 tickets).
