Does anyone here have any input about this drug when used with radiotherapy?

Stretch,
My husband had chemo and radiation. They tried the amiphostine but he could not handle it. It made him very ill. The nurse told us that very few of the patients were able to handle it. John had the IMRT radiation and his saliva flow is pretty good. Also his taste is coming back. We were told that the amiphostine was to protect the good tissue and glands while undergoing radiation. But the IMRT is also designed to spare them. John just finished 5 weeks ago and will have surgery the 14th of October. There is alot of info on line about amiphostine. Good luck on your decision.

My husband had amifostine for all of his radiation treatments. Although he does not have as much saliva as precancer, he does have some. He was nauseated several times when they gave it to him but the anti-nausea meds seemed to work pretty well.
