Hi, im 17 years old and have recently noticed a small bump on teh inside of my lower lip. I began freaking out immediately as i have been using dip (tobacco) for about a year and a half or so. I however do not think that i have done it long enuf to get anything like cancer. I did not do it a lot but the fact is that i still did do it so its in the back of mi mind. Because of this any small bump in my mouth i immediately think is cancer. However, wen i read about what a mucocele is it sounds like this could be wat i have. I read you can get a mucocele from trauma against your lip, or sucking or biting too much on your lip. This sounds like dip could def lead to one of these as you suck on the tobacco and it rubs against your gum. The bump itself is fairly small and painless, but is annoying. I find myself constantly playing with it either with my tounge or my fingers. The bump has a white top to it (like a pimple) adn i have been wripping it off. Its not clear or blister looking (like pics from online) but looks more like a pimple becasue of the white head. I have also had the bump for almost 3 weeks now, has gotten smaller but by a lot. Does anyone kno if this sounds like a mucocele?

Baller,

I am a 38yo male who had a zit-looking lump on the outer side of my lower lip. It would seem to shrink some days and get bigger on others. It didn't really bother me unless I hit it with a fork or spoon while eating. After several months, I went to my dermatologist and had it removed. She called me last week to tell me it was cancerous and set me up with an ENT. I go tomorrow.

Please don't wait any longer! Get to your dentist or family doctor and get it checked out! I have a 16yo son, and I will make sure that he knows to hit the doctor's office with anything unusual.

As others here will tell you, they are here to help. Trust me, there are wonderful people on here. I am sure that others here will echo my sentiments to drop what you are doing and get to the doctor now.

Keep us posted on what happens.

South Louisiana - Cancerous growth removed from lip 10/07. Lesion removal & biopsy done 11/7/07 - no signs of cancer in area. PET scan done. No signs of cancer in Head & neck. Something in chest. CT to be done 12/20/07
