Somewhere in the middle of radiation treatment she woke up one morning with a fever and laryngitis. Antibiotics cleared up whatever the infection was, but the voice is still gone. We know it has been a short time since the end of treatment, but were wondering what to expect from her voice problems. | | |

after radiation i couldn't talk for about 6 weeks. my throat was just too tender and would bleed. the doc told me to avoid wispering... after i started talking, it all recovered however it took almost 18 months for things to completely settle down. one of my concerns then was how to communicate if i had a problem at home while alone. i've been told that you can contact local officials so that they will know how to respond to a telephone call... i didn't set that up, but i think it would have been a good thing to do.
hopefully your mom's speech will be fine soon and that she has someone around to help.
