Trying to maintain my cool today. readying to go to intake at the Surgeons office for 1 st visit this AM. Doing alot of deep, slow breathing exercises as I ready myself to go. Figure I am in for the long haul now. Will keep you posted and certainly be posting again as I am sure questions will arise and this board has so many educated answers. Bless each of you for all you take the time to offer. This board is a blessing.

Home from ENT Oncol physician visit.Thinking I received a thourough exam, (little scop in office, an abnormality where the CT upon visual exam only looked to Physician to be out of symetry. He could not see with this view and wants to do a scope and Biopsy later this week or early next week if my HMO insurance speedily authorizes.

Also ENT specialist wants me to be seen first by UCI Internal Med for further work ups and clearance for Gen anest. to do the ENT biopsy, the ENT is also not sure why my mastiod (lft.ear area is hard and somewhat swollen) then a work up by the Breast surgeon to have him biopsy a suspicious area. Being my CEA levels are high, my medical history and a couple of serious exposures to plutonium accidents along my past living near uranium tailings for a long period, there is clear reason for further evals. From what I have read on these boards seems that Oral Cancer is the worst to deal with. So I will be praying cancer is not lurking in that oropharngeal mass seen on the CT. From what I have witnessed in the hospital and clinical settings having a cancer anywhere is not a good hand to be delt either... The ENT seemed concerned that the CEA was so high. Seems I will be spending some outpatient time at UCI this week. My luck of late will be that the biopsies will be done on Thanksgiiving...oh well, my sons will love the opportunity to make a mess in the kitchen, and love less that they will have to clean it all up after...:-)
Thank you again for all the suport and encouragement.

Can,

Good luck to you this week. Sounds as you will have a whirlwind week, we've been there and it will go quickly.
I have CT scans scheduled for this week, too. Don't meet with the doctor till after Thanksgiving. So therefore I plan to eat everything I can within my limits. And just be Scarlett O'Hara this week. "tomorrow's another day"
Keep us posted. We'll be wishing you the best.
Take care,
Dinah

Although the lady is correct...any way you look at it oral cancer is a bitch, but the docs did tell me one encouraging thing about it when I was initially diagnosed: Oral cancer does not like to travel around as much as other cancers. It seems to prefer staying localized.
Now there is something to be thankful for.

I am feeling a-ok considering and very thankful I will be celebrating Thanksgiiving with my wonderful sons and being able to enjoy the meal these young men (ages 19, 15, 12) are preparing. I am feeling thankful for life and grateful for the expedicious way the med ctr I am going to has arranged my diagnosis and treatment. Sorry to be repititous but I received good news today. I had an ultrasound and needle biopsy on neck node that concerned Drs. after CT scan. It is benign! This means that I am basically through with treatment and just need for my throat to heal so I can start swallowing food and get rid of this darned PEG.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
