Hi everyone,
My 54yr old, otherwise fit and healthy husband was diagnosed with cancer in his jaw in later February. He had an almost complete mandibulectomy 4 weeks ago and was left with 2 molars on the right hand side.
He is doing well and thankfully no setbacks which we are grateful for.
His main concern at the moment is swelling- can anyone please share their experiences as to how long it took for the swelling to go down both externally and internally? And was there anything you did to help reduce the swelling?
Thank you in advance smile

Thank you

Hello GoldCoastCancer,

Welcome to the forums, and I am sorry about your husbands diagnosis.

Sorry I can't speak to your husbands situation. I am glad he was doing well and hope he has continued to improve, and even more rapidly and that the swelling goes down

You may want to do a search in the forum search box in the upper right hand corner of the screen, and then find someone who posted about a scenarios similar to your husband's and send them a private message directly (by clicking or right clicking on their username) .

That may result in their email getting a notification and them getting back to you.

As it is, just waiting on someone who was in that same situation, to browse through the new forum posts...you may be waiting a while.

Best wishes,

CQ

To help reduce swelling - any physical therapy aftercare? If not ask your primary care doctor for an order for a few sessions. Find a PT with experience in aftercare. S/he can show you daily massage exercises that will help drain those backed up lymph glands. That will help reduce swelling. I spend time every morning in the shower, still doing the gentle massage techniques that help drain my lymph nodes. I had both my tongue and jaw removed due to tumors in both. Good luck!
