I am so happy to find this board dedicated to oral cancers. There are none others that I've found. I have been told that as far as the dr can tell without doing surgery I have a cancer on the base of my tongue...in the throat. He believes it has spread to lymph glands. I go for a CAT scan Wed and to Houston to the Head and Neck Clinic next Monday. Any advice. I'm terrified and so upset I'm sick at my stomach. I'm 52, quit smoking 5 years ago.

Dear PJ, Welcome to the board, it is full of intelligent, caring people who are so helpfull. It is great you live in Texas, as that is where my husband went for his treatment for Stage IV tonsil cancer with mets to the lymph nodes in his neck. MD Anderson is wonderful. My husband went through seven weeks of radiation plus the initial surgery where they found the cancer. Try to stay positive. My husband's cancer was two years ago and today he is doing great.

PJ, Welcome. You will find tons of infortmation and advice on the board and the forum. We have all been there through the waiting. I had to wait 2 months between my initial diagnoses and my surgery. The only way I made it through that trying time was with the help and understanding from my husband and friends. I was also prescribed anit-anxiety pills. Keep ups posted and take care. Anne

My cancer was under my tongue, no one could give me an explanation of why.........not smoking or drinking, it just happened, be sure, if you use psychotropic drugs that you are aware of the side effects, we have seen, especially with wellbutrin and zyban, horrid side effects.........also, antianxiety meds can wreck havoc.....make sure you have a competent dr. and don`t take anyone`s advice, but your own............
