Hi
My name is Lincoln and I'm 55 and just had oral surgery for tongue cancer. I'm in NYC. Had surgery through Weill-Cornell at NY Presbyterian on 68th street. The doctor got the whole tumor, 8mm deep, took out over thirty lymph nodes which showed no sign of disease. I see a radiologist on Monday. My surgeon said new data showed a 25% possible recurrence rate without radiation and 5% or less with it. I can talk and swallow and can manage the pain on Advil now. Eating mushy food one and a half weeks from surgery. I can't wait to chat with people here!
Thanks in advance for your support and guidance-
Peace
Lincoln

Lincoln: Oral cancer is specific to a very small group and that makes it important to be sure you deal with those with the greatest specific experience (read Comprehensive Cancer Center).

In New York you have Sloan Kettering, in Boston, Dana Farber, etc. I know that with Dana Farber there is information on their website that says you can send in your medical files and they will give you a second opinion.

If I were in New York I would find a way to send mine to Sloan Kettering. Of course, free advice is worth what you pay for it. Best of luck.

Thanks all.
I’m twelve days into radiation and have mucositis spreading around my mouth. They said it would happen. I will post more in a specific forum.
