I am a three year throat cancer survivor, dealing with the aftermath of radiation. At the moment, my journey is with loss off all teeth....extractions have stopped because of slow healing and now doing hyperbaric sessions. I have just a few teeth left, so chewing is non existent. Now the blender is my best friend, and trying to learn nutrition all over again. I have no trouble swallowing, just chewing. Any suggestions?
Love to all in your journey,
Jeannie

Hi Jeannie77!

I also had all my teeth pulled after radiation, and did HBOT twice. Due to unforeseen medical issues, I have not seen about dentures. Implants were not really recommended by my otolaryngologist after having radiation 5x.

I basically follow a soft food or mechanical food diet as they call it. I try many things through trial and error. It depends on the food, and if it’s cooked too much for me. When I go out it’s Japanese for sushi and sashimi or Italian for the pasta as an example, and others. There’s usually something, but not everything, although I probably tried it!

I used to blend my food, but don’t feel like it lately or use a food processor.

Mashed potatoes or other mashed food like turnip are favorites. This morning I made two fried eggs and toast. For dinner i’ll probably have pasta with sauce. It really depends how I feel. I made plenty of green salads in the food processor and were tasty too! Speaking of salads, macaroni and potato salad are doable. Cole slaw I may zip it once in the mini food processor, and even eat certain parts of a chicken, dark fatty meat, from Costco.

I have a few digital books with recipes on easy to eat foods that I haven’t looked at in a while. They may have been free or minimal money, but if I can, I’ll send you a copy.

Christine, our Member Director, or other title, has a listing of soft food to eat, and from what I hear, a delicious and nutritious protein drink if you look it up on search, if Christine doesn’t pass by, but usually does.

I hope this helps! Foods are one of my favorites to talk about!

I hope this helps!
