Husband do with stage 3 base tongue involving 1 lymph node (so far they believe it’s contained in that node). Tumor about 1.3cm, soft, did not cross midline. Being treated at John Hopkins. His surgeon, Radiologist Oncologist and tumor board all think HPV16 but will get results tomorrow. Recommendation is surgical removal. I feel like we pick excellent surgeon but I’m feeling “a bad gut feeling” about surgery as first step because of everything I read. I’m an RN so research things like crazy. Surgery scheduled for this Thursday. Any one had similar or words of wisdom appreciated.

Wife and cheerleader. Right sided BOT dx 2/25, surgery 3/7 for tumor removal (clean margins) 2 lymph nodes 1 pos for ECE (ugh), pT2N1M0 HPV POSITIVE (one small blessing in this nightmare), Stage changed to Stage 1 due to diffuse and large HPV status. tx plan 33 radiation, 5 cisplatin chemo to begin 4/12.

Hi..

My sister had tongue cancer.. The measurements were about the same as your husbands. They did not surgically remove it. She had 33 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy. She ended her radiation last April... still trying to learn how to eat and swallow.

****ADMIN NOTE**** In the US, radiation w/ chemo for OC is almost always given for 6-8 weeks. This post should probably read 33 treatments, not 33 weeks.

Do you know if hers was HPV positive or not? Thanks for replying.
