Nancy, Sorry to have you among us, but welcome. It is NEVER too late for another opinion. Even after treatment has started. Good docs welcome more input. Go get at least one more opinion. Please.

There are many of us here that have made it past cancers in late stages. I remember being so frightened by all those "odds". Ignore them. You aren't concerned about "trends" in survival rates anyway, you are only interested in your husband's survival right now. The "odds" aren't about him - only about the group he has joined. Focus on your guy, and ignore the math. Its grim and confusing and doesn't really apply anyway.

It is my opinion that he needs to know what he is up against. There are enough nasty surprises with our cancer. Don't underestimate him. The more I learned about my condition the more frightened I became, but also, the more determined I became. Fear is a powerful and useful thing to harness. Fear converts easily into anger and anger to resolve. Get him to read everything on this site. I wish I had done so much earlier.

Get mad. Get another opinion. Take charge. Fight hard. We are with you. We are with your husband too. Be strong. Tom

Darrell,
Now my scientific curiosity has been aroused.

Do you have work at stupid comments or does this just come naturally to you?

What really bothers me the most is that in 64 more posts you'll be a "patient advocate". God help us.

Brian - you HAVE to raise the bar!

"The radiology oncologist said that she did not recommend the imrt..she wants to cover the entire area, and says that she should wants to get the tonsil bed."

Nan, I received roughly the same rationale from my Rad Onc when I asked about IMRT -- That effectively it wasn't the best approach in my case because he is trying to blanket an area. (He is using IMRT for some cases).

In my case, it's a moot point now because the series is completed.
