Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,671 | The University of TN has developed a portable disease detection device about the size of a smart phone for possible early detection of deceases and physiological conditions. According to a TV news report, it should be marketable next year and for use worldwide on humans as well as animals. Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,293 Likes: 1 | New technologies are wonderful. Since cancer detection requires a biopsy to extract cells for examination, this tool won't work as it uses blood or body fluid to grab the cells for analysis.

Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,671 | Thanks for the info, Don. I had read (Mayo Clinic) that some cancers are detectable with a blood test and I was hoping. . . . It is interesting to note that years ago when Star Trek was way into the future, they also had a portable "Disease Detection Device" and it was called a Tricoder. :-)

Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 1,024 | A bit like the Oraldna test . That only tells you at that given time , whether you have oral HPV or not. It does not tell you if you have oral cancer . Or if your HPV will turn cancerous. Tammy

PET 6/11 clear.
R) level 2-4 neck dissection 8/1/11 to remove residual node - necrotic with NED
Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!
