Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,671 | The University of TN has developed a portable disease detection device about the size of a smart phone for possible early detection of deceases and physiological conditions. According to a TV news report, it should be marketable next year and for use worldwide on humans as well as animals. Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,294 Likes: 1 | New technologies are wonderful. Since cancer detection requires a biopsy to extract cells for examination, this tool won't work as it uses blood or body fluid to grab the cells for analysis.

Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,671 | Thanks for the info, Don. I had read (Mayo Clinic) that some cancers are detectable with a blood test and I was hoping. . . . It is interesting to note that years ago when Star Trek was way into the future, they also had a portable "Disease Detection Device" and it was called a Tricoder. :-)

Feb '12 Ca back.. 3/8/12 total glossectomy/laryngectomy/bilat neck dissection/partial pharyngectomy etc. clear margins. All nodes negative for disease. PEG in.
March 2017 - 5 years disease free. Woohoo!
